Monday the 16th of August 2021

Hello Everyone,
It’s been a bit over 2 weeks since my last update and I was hoping to be sharing some good news! Unfortunately, the Delta strain has taken its show on the road and headed for regional NSW – it will be playing to more empty auditoriums than an 80’s Tribute Band as the whole state is now in lockdown. This means that the chances of us re-opening at the end of August as planned are getting slimmer by the day. Although our friends in Club land outside of Sydney have been able to trade, they were trading with significantly reduced levels they have not seen before and were struggling with the question of whether it was even worth staying open at all.

As this lockdown drags on, I hope that you are finding ways to stay positive and healthy, both physically and mentally! They both can be challenging but they go hand in hand….I did spot one of you jogging through Keiraville the other day! It was a slow jog but a jog all the same! It made me not stop at BWS and go straight home to the exercise bike….I did feel better when happy hour inevitably rolled around. As Jimmy Buffet says, It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!

On the Blacklist front, Elizabeth now knows that Reddington is her father! Mr Kaplan (for anyone that hasn’t watch it yet, Mr Kaplan is actually a woman) proved to be a worthy adversary with an intriguing past. Dembe’s loyalty was questioned and the body in the suitcase caused the death of Elizabeth’s spy husband Tom – for the second time! Sometimes it feels like the script writers spent time writing for the Bold and the Beautiful…..Elizabeth has now woken up after 10 months in a coma! I’m in season 5 of 8 so more twists and turns and late nights to come.

Over on Billions, Axe is calling in all favours and destroying all that get in his way! Chuck Rhoades has finally admitted defeat and he and Axe are now working together to keep each other out of jail! Lara has left for California with the kid’s and a few billion dollars for incidentals! Wags keeps defying modern medicine by drinking and snorting his way through the night clubs of Wall Street while Wendy Rhoades (wife of Chuck) is having a crisis of conscience and is at risk of having her medical license revoked.

My son has had his 11 stitches out and will make a full recovery, he was lucky there was no major tendon damage. He has discovered that his play station is a great physiotherapy aid to rehabilitate a damaged thumb!

On another note…You will all no doubt be hearing and reading about the debate over vaccinations and the rights of both employees and employers with respect to duty of care, safe workplaces and a business’ approval to operate. The club is watching this space like all of us and will make any decisions when all information is fully available. As you all know we have 1,000’s of members and visitors walking through our front doors every week so there is a lot that needs to be considered.

In the meantime you will soon receive a short survey from the Club to gauge the current level of support for the vaccines so that the Club has accurate information on all employees to assist with our decision making if and when required.

Just another reminder about getting vaccinated. If you are eligible then I encourage you to make an appointment as soon as possible if you haven’t already. The more people in our community that are vaccinated the faster the world as we know it will return to normal and the Government will have the confidence to lift restrictions and let us get on with our lives. The extended lockdown means there is more time to get fully vaccinated if you have had your first jab! I have included the link to the COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Checker for you to visit if you need any more information or to find a location to have the vaccine and book an appointment.

Employee Assistance Program

The Club would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of its Employee Assistance Program. This is a free and confidential counselling service, available to you if you feel this would be of benefit to you. You may call them on 1300 727 308.

We hope you continue to keep yourself safe during this difficult period and we look forward to seeing you back at work as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely
